I was on the search for a liquid, good quality, and affordable foundation. Basically the dream of every girl who likes to wear makeup, right?
At first I thought that was not going to be possible for me. My face and drugstore foundations just simply don’t get along. Or at least that’s what I thought.
I came across a video from Casey Holmes where she was explaining how much she loved the CoverGirl Healthy Elixir Foundation, and I was impressed. I’ve never been a fan of CoverGirl’s products (don’t ask me why), but Casey is such an expert on makeup that her amazing review just made me feel very curious to try this out.
Without thinking too much I went to CVS and picked it up. The price of the CoverGirl Healthy Elixir Foundation is around $10 to $13. I had a coupon so I can’t really remember how much I paid for it. However, I think that for 1.00 oz of foundation this is a pretty affordable product.
The description of this foundation claims to be hydrating, long-lasting, and with a buildable formula. It also comes with SPF20 which is also a plus. So I’ll base my review on this claims.
I tried it the next morning and I can say it impressed me instantly. The CoverGirl Healthy Elixir Foundation applies so smooth and beautifully, that it feels like your own rejuvenated skin. I cannot asure that this foundation is actually hydrating my skin, but seems to give me a more dewy look.
I have combination skin and would always used matte finish foundations, because I had the idea that they were going to last longer. Well, I was wrong with this one. Even though the CoverGirl Healthy Elixir Foundation is not matte finish, it will last all day on my face. And to hear that from somebody who lives in Miami should be the best proof you could find out there.
I do set this with loose powder but I don’t honestly know another way to wear liquid foundation.
Another thing that really impressed me was how buildable this foundation is. You could build it for an elaborated makeup or just use a little bit to achieve a natural look.
You could even mix a little pump of this with bit of your moisturizer and you could have a BB cream. I honestly don’t dare to do this while living in Miami. Otherwise my face will look like as greasy as a glazed doughnut just in a matter of seconds.
Now, If you want a light look without the moisturizer, a few dots of this foundation will go a long way too.
I’m not really an expert on sunscreens at all. So then again, I have no way to assure that this foundation is actually protecting my face from the sun. But there is something different about this SPF formula, and it’s the flashback in pictures.
Have you ever noticed your foundation looks extremely white in pictures? If your foundation has SPF, then that might be the reason.
I’m glad to say that this doesn’t happen with the CoverGirl Healthy Elixir Foundation. Maybe the SPF formula is juts a placebo or they really have a very good sunscreen formula…who knows. The positive side about this is that your face won’t look like a ghost whenever you take a picture.
Last but not least, lets talk about the smell of this foundation… because it’s incredibly good! I honestly wish I had it as my perfume. However, if you’re sensitive to noticeable aromas, I strongly suggest you to smell it before purchasing it.
Hope this information might be helpful if you’re on the market for a new drugstore foundation!
