Long time no see. Life has been changing around here due to three reasons: 1. Crazy days at work. 2. Hurricane Irma. 3. HUGE and beautiful life event.
I found this draft that I was writing the day before Hurricane Irma made a landfall at Florida, which I decided to leave just as it is.
Hurricane Irma has transformed the life of all Floridian since last Sunday (September 3rd) . It was forecasted to be a category 5 (maximum category on hurricanes) and of course everyone freaked out after Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Just so you have an idea, hurricane Harvey was a category 3.
Life became crazy for us after Tuesday. Lines for getting gas were crazy down in Miami. Hurricane Harvey caused some problems on gas supplies coming in from Texas. Therefore, gas was scarce and prices were going up.
Also, buying bottled water and non perishable foods down there became and adventure.
Wednesday night things were not looking quite positive for us. All the forecasts said that Irma was coming right at us. So my boyfriend and I took one of the most difficult decisions: pack our belongings and drive up to his parents house.
In a matter of 12 hours, he put up shutters in his windows, we took inside all of the outside furniture/exercise equipment, cleared the fridge of all the perishable foods, packed food and water, and packed our belongings.
Poor Sasha (our dog) was so scared she did not want to eat/move/or behave like she normally would.
It was 1:30 am when we finally finished everything and left to his parents house.
Leaving was tough. Acknowledging that it could be the last time I would see our homes as we knew them made me want to cry. But I forced myself to be strong.
We got to his parents at around 6:00 am in the morning, and went straight to a much needed session of sleep.
I stopped this post right here on September 10 without knowing it was going to be one of the most special days of my life.
My boyfriend and I got engaged!!!!!!!!!!!
He proposed at his parents house the night before the hurricane came. It was completely unexpected yet such a sweet moment. After all we went trough the past few days, we fell closer than ever. Sometimes, the foundations of a relationship are not only based upon the good moments but also about going trough tough times as well.
From the beginning, we knew we wanted to go trough this storm together. This experience reminded us how much we love/carry about each other, and how much we value and appreciate our lives together. Getting engaged in a moment like this turned out to be more special to me than any other type of marriage proposal he could’ve come up with.
At the end of the day the hurricane went to the west coast of Florida and reduced to a category 3, which was very favorable for all of us at the east coast. My aprtment didn’t have any damages and my fiance’s house only had a few ones in the backyard. By now, we can focus on planning our wedding<3.
I’m praying for all of the people who did get affected by hurricane Irma and any other natural disasters lately (hurricane Maria, Harvey, and Mexico’s earthquake).
Thanks for reading!
